Peaking At The Right Time

West Long Branch, NJ (The Verge) – Who says Monmouth sports aren’t interesting?
The Hawks basketball team was in top form last Saturday evening, routing first place Long Island 106-78. Although Long Island had already won the conference, the Hawks kept playing for seeding in the NEC tourney.
Six players scored in double figures, including Mike Meyers-Keitt who had 20 and a momentum boosting four point play late in the first half. The Hawks seemingly could not miss, shooting almost 57% from the field. Whenever they needed, a big basket, someone seemed to step up.
They also clamped down on the defensive end, forcing 23 turnovers. A few dunks towards the end of the game then iced the gameand excited the crowd.
It was truly a Hawk dominated second half, in which they outscored their Blackbird counter parts 56-38. Definitely their most impressive win of the season, the Hawks look to take their momentum to Robert Morris in the first round of the NEC tourney.
