How To Stay Healthy This Summer

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Once May rolls around, many of us come to the harsh realization that we have yet to lose those 10 pounds we gained over the winter, the 10 pounds we swore we would lose by beach season.  Many of us are now on a mad dash to get ourselves back in shape.  As you revamp your fitness regimen, make sure you are approaching your gym routine in a healthy way.  Follow these tips and you will be sure to get back your summer bod, and do so in a healthy way!

Drink Water
When working out, especially in the summer heat, it is so important to stay hydrated. Water is the best thing for the body; you need to make sure you are fueling your body with water all day long.  Get yourself a reusable water bottle (a water bottle with a filter is even better) and keep yourself hydrated for optimal health this summer.
Skip The Sugar
Cotton candy, funnel cakes, ice cream, lemonade, and salt-water taffy are all delicious boardwalk treats, but they can wreak havoc on your body. Instead of filling up on sugary treats, limit yourself to one thing. Or, for a more healthy alternative, grab some fruit to eat.   All of these treats are delicious, but they are full of sugar that can affect your summer body and your health. Keep the sweets to a minimum and you will feel better and you will look better as well.
Make Beach Time Play Time
After a hectic semester or long work week, laying on the beach is on the top of everyone priority list.  But if you are trying to maintain your beach bod, laying in a beach chair all day may not be the best idea.  Instead, bring a Frisbee, a tennis ball, or even a lacrosse stick and start a game during your beach day. You can even make new friends on the beach if you are being active, because maybe other people will want to play with you. Keeping moving can help you break a little sweat on the beach, which can help your tan since your skin is moisturized. Keeping fit and getting at tan at the same time sounds like a good plan.
Beach Cruiser
If you are lucky enough to live in a beach town, it can take you less than ten minutes to get to the sandy shore. To keep up your cardio without missing an ounce of sun take your bike to the beach. This is also going to help you save money. If you are not driving your car to the beach then you’re saving on gas as well, which means money in your pocket. Go get yourself a set of wheels and get rolling.
Walk The Beach At Night
The beach isn’t only good when the suns out; it is also very relaxing when it is quiet at night. Listening to the waves crash can soothe the soul, and walking along the shoreline is a great way to keep moving.  Maybe you will even see some fireworks!
Swim Laps
Sitting next to the pool all day in the hot sun, it is inevitable that you will have to jump in. So hop in that pool and swim a lap or two to cool down. Swimming in the pool helps your cardio and it will cool you off at the same time. If you swim a few laps every time you jump into the pool you will get at least 30 minutes of cardio if you’re out in the sun all day long, if not more.
Keeping healthy during your summer vacation doesn’t have to be a chore.  Follow these simple tips and you will be sure to maintain your beach bod.
