WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – In the heat of, arguably, the nicest day all year, hundreds of students attended Monmouth University’s Springfest, May 3 on the campus’ great lawn. Commemorating the University’s spirit, the memories students have made and the closing on another year, Monmouth University hosted the celebration annually in an effort to really give back to its students and remind them of the friendly nature of the campus.
Run by the Student Government Association (SGA), Springfest has a budget of more than $20,000 and provides students with food, games, music and entertainment for the entirety of the day. This year, the up and coming artist, DJ Earworm performed and was received warmly, as students everywhere unanimously agreed the event was a great success.
What a lot of people take for granted, though, is how much work actually goes into making the event take place.
Sophomore, Kaylie Mazza, had this to say about working on the project, “It was definitely challenging organizing such a large event, but working on the project was fun. It’s nice knowing that something SGA creates can bring the whole campus together”.
All that hard work certainly paid off as students all over gallivanted around the lawn, singing, dancing and enjoying themselves for hours on end.
Student, Stephanie Leo, in explaining the event summarized it best with: “I’m thankful the University would provide us with such an awesome event. With finals right around the corner, it’s a breath of fresh air getting the opportunity to unwind with good music, good food and the company of good friends”.
It seems apparent that students of all ages were receptive to the festivities. It is a wonderful tradition SGA works hard to recreate, year after year, and students all over will be happy to return to Springfests for years to come.
